The Humane Society of York County has selected Ferrara|Buist to design, build and manage the construction of their new animal shelter and general offices.

The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) is a local non-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. They are located in Fort Mill, South Carolina and serve the greater Charlotte region including York, Lancaster and Mecklenburg counties. Their mission is to prevent animal suffering; to help reduce overpopulation by promoting spaying and neutering, to educate the public about animal welfare and to place adoptable animals in loving homes. They also advocate for animal rights legislation and support the prosecution of animal abusers.

“This business design + build project includes the construction of twenty-four enclosed dog kennel spaces, a pharmacy, a dispensary, a laundry, a kitten and a puppy room, plus several isolation and quarantine rooms,” said Ferrara|Buist managing partner David Buist. 

“Because we are handling all aspects of the project, we are able to introduce several cost-savings ideas to make the space creative, comfortable, functional and inviting to both the animal and human visitors!”

Ferrara|Buist is helping a local Boys and Girls Club raise funds for the building of a new community center as part of our “social entrepreneur” and giving back program.

Ferrara|Buist has drawn the initial building elevation and interior layout so the Boys and Girls Club can get out into the community to begin their fundraising effort for building their new community center.

“We are active with the YMCA and now the Boys and Girls Club in helping these fantastic organizations move quickly toward realizing new building projects for their various activities,” said Ferrara|Buist managing partner David Buist.  “By offering our building design services to the local Boys and Girls Club community center project, we saved them two-thousand dollars so they can quickly take these building plans and find donors to fund their project.”
